I wrote this in response to hearing Kate Rusby sing 'Who will sing me lullabies'. I thought it would be a shame if no-one did, so ... 'Sing sweetly, sing sweet lullabies to the lost and lonely... goodnight and dream of happiness for the worn and weary.'
Lullaby
Sing sweetly, sing sweet lullabies
To the lost and lonely.
Goodnight, and dream of happiness,
For the worn and weary
Take one day at a time,
Start where others ended.
Step by step the broken heart
Somehow can be mended.
So sing sweetly...
Don't look back, the love we have
From others is eternal, but
Live the life you have to live,
There is no rehearsal.
Sing sweetly...
No-one's immune from grief
You are only human;
Though bereaved, and times are hard,
I know you'll come through them.
Sing sweetly
Days of wonder, days of glory
Always have their evenings.
Nothing lasts, journeys always
Start with someone leaving.
So sing sweetly
