Shepherds
The angels appear to the shepherds, this is their story. It's got a good chorus - all the best carols have a good chorus! I wrote a whole Nativity series of songs once, but only a few songs have stayed with me. This is one.
Shepherds
In the fields near Bethlehem, we were minding sheep
And watching the flocks...
Suddenly an angel stood before us saying
'Shepherds, fear not!'

Go down to the town
Where the Saviour's to be found-
The prophesied Messiah; the Christ, the King!
And this shall be the sign;
He that's born of David's line-
The babe is manger laid in swaddling

And we forgot the lambs
And the tups and ewes and rams
And we left them to their grazing.
And the angels sang
And the skies echoed and rang
With a thousand voices praising.

And it's glory be
Glory be to God on high
For tonight is born the Saviour,
And we say again
'Peace on earth, goodwill to men,'
And the whole world sings 'Alleluia'

Running down to Bethlehem
As if us, not the angels had wings.
All the way to Bethlehem
To see the baby born to be king.

And not to jewelled halls
Palaces with marble walls,
But to a farmer's stable we were led.
And there a heavenly light
Lit the Palestinian night,
And we found the baby like the angel said.

And the sense of awe as we came in the door
Took our breath and sent us reeling.
And it's all we could was worship where we stood
And believe in this beginning.

And it's glory be
Glory be to God on high
For tonight is born the Saviour.
And we say again
'Peace on earth, goodwill to men'
And the whole earth sings 'Alleluia'.
