Sing me a Lullaby
Another for 'Sing for Change' - a really miserable and depressing song about the devastation of the natural world. I was channelling Kate Rusby when I wrote and recorded this - I hope she doesn't mind!
Sing me a Lullaby
Chorus
Sing me a lullaby of bees and bugs and butterflies
Please do not let me cry myself to sleep

Sing of orchards loud with bees
Scents of blossoms heavy on the breeze
Could they not have saved the trees?
They've stolen my world
What happened to it please?

Sing of meadows bright with flowers
Green herbs growing for the grazing cows
But there's nothing but bleak fields round here now
They've stolen my world
What happens to it now?

They're songs of a world that's gone or going
Phosphates dumped, and sewage flowing
Chemical cocktails keep crops growing
...
Progress for profit, and it's all a game
We're all paying the price of a world in pain

Sing of the crystal rivers' gleams
Children playing in the shallow streams
Water that's sweet and clean
They've stolen my world, and it's
Nothing but a dream

Sing of invisible worlds below
Bugs working the soil to help crops to grow
But the circle of nature's broken now
They've stolen my world
And that is all I know

They're songs of a world that's gone or going
Phosphates dumped, and sewage flowing
Chemical cocktails keep crops growing
...
Progress for profit, and it's all a game
But we're all paying the price of a world in pain
