Borderlands
A song written in response to an invitation to perform in Cumbria... where the reivers are the unquiet dead, and murder is still in the air. I fear they hear my southern name... I re-used the tune from 'Farewell to Boston' - one of the Pilgrim songs.
Borderlands
There's murder in the air you breathe
And breathed in deep since time began,
Where graveyards full of punks and reivers
Dance to the beat of the Borderlands.

Blood still flows in burn and mere
Staining ghostly hearts and hands,
Graves cry out to the balladeers
Singing laments for the Borderlands.

I hear "Rise up now and rise up all, unquiet spirits boldly cry
Haste and heigh to haunt the halls of the borders, of the borders by and by"

Your border ghosts awake again
From shadows and the dark they rise.
I fear they hear my southern name
Unsheath their swords and sharpen knives.

I tell you now I fear your ilk,
And all they have at their command
They sucked revenge from their mother's milk
And lived and died for the borderlands

I hear - "Rise up now and rise up all unquiet spirits boldly cry
Haste and heigh to haunt the halls of the borders, of the borders by and by"

I hear the singing, hear the call
"To vengeance now, spilt blood demands
You leave your rest ye brothers all -
Rise up now for the borderlands"

"History is still on hold,
Ride again in raiding bands
Spirits of the heroes bold,
Haunting the halls of the borderlands"

I hear "Rise up now and rise up all unquiet spirits boldly cry
Haste and heigh to haunt the halls of the borders, of the borders by and by"

"Blood calls to blood, fling off your headstones
Be not ye betrayed again.
With grave clothes still on your reiver bones
Dance to the beat of the borderlands"

I hear "Rise up now and rise up all unquiet spirits boldly cry,
Haste and heigh to haunt the halls of the borders, of the borders by and by
The forgotten, the forgotten lands by and by"
