A song I've not done anything with, though I love the thought that horses are God's gift to humankind, and are, in fact, the better part of us.
Barbary Horse
I will give you a Barbary Horse,
No man has ever tamed him
By kindness or force,
But if he were to take the apple
From your hand
He will be to you the best of friends
In all this land.
And for ever and forevermore
This was the plan
That the horse should be the
Better part of man.
I will give you a fine Arab mare,
For beauty and for courage
No other compares,
Her hooves are swift upon the ground
Her eye is sweet and kind
You shall ride her without curb or spur;
She'll read your mind.
I will give you a horse with no name
A wild horse, a painted horse
That will never prove lame.
A horse that's from the dreamtime
Where the wilder horses run;
It's a horse to keep you safe
And bring you home
And there's a horse of thunder that will strengthen your hand
In war and peace, in battle, and in working the land
As gentle as a drop of rain,
With the strength of 50 men,
And a heart so great you'll not see the like again
And through this nobility
Man may come at last to see
A truth he cannot falsify
And through the horse's eye
To glimpse eternity
